The Algerian Presidency announced on Saturday that the President of the Republic of Niger and Head of State, General Abdourahamane Tiani, will pay an official visit to Algeria on Sunday for a two-day working and fraternal visit.
According to a brief statement, the visit will take place on February 15–16, with President Tiani leading a high-level delegation.
The statement noted that the visit comes at the invitation of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
It further emphasized that the visit aims to strengthen bonds of brotherhood, cooperation, and good neighborliness between the two countries, within a renewed dynamic seeking to better harness their respective capacities and potential for the benefit of both the Algerian and Nigerien peoples.
The visit is also expected to provide an opportunity to address political issues related to the African continent in general, and the Sahel region in particular.
This anticipated visit comes after a period of diplomatic coolness between the two countries, with signs of renewed momentum emerging following a high-level Algerian energy delegation’s visit to Niger earlier this week — a move widely seen as the beginning of a diplomatic thaw between Algiers and Niamey.
